This beautiful little hill station derives its name from kichaka, who was killed by bhima for insulting draupadi, the wife of the pandav rulers. The valley was initially called kichak bara. Legend has it that this beautiful hill-station was discovered by captain robinson of the hydrabad  contingent battery in 1853. Situated on a plateau at height of 1118.12 meters above sea level, the panorama atop its beautiful landscape is quite simply awe-inspiring. The hills, valley, rivers and dense forest of the verdant hill-station offer breath-taking views. It is a small, unexplored hill-station that offers an unparalleled get-away experience.

Chikhaldara is only coffee growing area in maharashtra. The melghat tiger project is located nearby. Sloth bears, panthers, sambers and wild boar can also be spotted here. Excursions can be made to gavilgarh fort and narnala fort, pandit nehru botanical gardens, the semadoh lake and the tribal museum
